The Business Unit Controller will have full responsibility for the Business Unit financial statements.  This includes helping to maximize return on assets by establishing strong financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.  The Business Unit Controller will be a key business partner that will add value to the organization by providing critical analysis and identifying areas of opportunity for financial improvement. An effective Controller has good knowledge of accounting of principles, organized, have a great eye for detail, and be willing to provide candid feedback related to business and financial matters.  They must be reliable and be able to work collaboratively and autonomously as necessary. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete the monthly Business Unit forecast and close.
  • Prepare, interpret and analyze financial statements, key performance indicators, working capital metrics, and 80/20 schedules, among others. Investigate variances as necessary.
  • Review and create journal entries and account reconciliations for the Business Unit's general ledger accounts. 
  • Contribute to the development and review of the strategic aspects of the annual operating plan and develop the financial budget around the strategic plan.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial results and annual plan presentations to all members of the Marmon team, from the Business Unit Staff to the Marmon CEO/CFO.
  • Review Business Unit processes to drive simplification initiatives, USa projects and other applications of core 80/20 principles. 
  • Be the strategic thought partner to the Business Unit President to support, and challenge him/her in thinking, pricing, costing, and other topics as necessary.
  • Supports and mentors department heads reporting to President on financial tracking, monthly reporting, and annual budgets for their respective areas.
  • Understands corporate directed accounting standard practice instructions and ensure compliance throughout the Business Unit.
  • Design, develop, and test internal controls to secure Business Unit and company assets to reduce/eliminate fraud risk and assist in developing work papers for all audits.
  • Work with Business Unit Management to create authorizations for expenditures (CapEx requests) including analysis of cost savings, ROI, and payback.
  • Oversee the annual physical inventory and reconcile differences.
  • Complete monthly financial data uploads and financial form completion to Marmon utilizing Oracle Hyperion system.
  • Assist with completion of full segmentation of the Business Unit in order to allow the company to operate autonomously from the parent.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualification and Competencies (Education & Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent or 6+ years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing environment required. MBA and/or CPA preferred.
  • 6+ years of progression in an accounting/financial analysis position.
  • Audit experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, accurate and timely.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills required.
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting.
  • Strong excel skills are preferred.
  • Experience with Hyperion and/or Sage MAS 500 a plus.
