As a manufacturing engineer at Silver King, you will assist in the development and facilitate the implementation of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing concepts within the manufacturing environment. The primary goal is utilization and implementation of lean thinking in manufacturing to clearly specify value, to organize and develop value-creating activities for specific product families with value streaming processes so that production requirements flow smoothly with urgent response to customer needs. The advocate for continuous refinement and improvement in processes and employee commitment to ensure the institutionalization of value added lean manufacturing and 80/20 assessments throughout the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of lean manufacturing concepts in streamlining operations so that each activity and process adds value in servicing customer requirements.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods with an 80/20 focus.
  • Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs equipment layout and workspace for maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develop and coordinate the 5s - sort, set, shine, standardize, and sustain.
  • Direct the activities of operations personnel utilizing motivational techniques to secure participation and commitment to lean manufacturing via continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop personnel in lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Conceptualize and implement cost reduction programs consistent with lean manufacturing concepts to reduce cycle time and eliminate waste.
  • Conceptualize and implement value vs. non-value added actions to continuously improve costs.
  • Perform a major role in establishing lean manufacturing events (i.e. Kaizen, 5-S, standard work, setup reduction, etc.)
  • Work with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure effective and efficient production methods.
  • Confer with vendors to determine production specifications and recommends purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluates to specification and quality standards.
  • Coordinate and responsible for project plans related to kaizen and 80/20 events and assigns work to others in a variety of disciplines in fulfillment of project.
  • Follow established policies and procedures as outlines in Prince Castle's Quality Manual and associated documents.
  • Participate in quality assurance and business improvement activities, including training and improvement projects as defined by the organization.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

 Minimum degree and required experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management or equivalent or 5 years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Five through seven years related experience or training within a manufacturing environment implementing lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

Specific skills/competencies required:

  • Experience in establishing 5S and 80/20 processes.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Kaizen events, value steam mapping, KanBan and time studies.
  • Exhibited skills mentoring, developing, and training employees on continuous improvement.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, engineers, and other disciplines.
  • Excellent persuasive skills.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Extensive multitasking will also be a requirement.
