Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager of this business unit, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for working with customer and internal stakeholders in developing new products for the food service industry.  This includes managing all phases of product development from ideation to post commercialization support.  The position requires the ability to lead teams and major developments, working directly with customers and business unit functional areas such as marketing, sales, and operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative food service equipment products for both domestic and international markets through interfacing directly with customers and sales team to understand and develop product specification and requirements.
  • Perform engineering analysis including, but not limited to heat transfer, stress/strain, deformation, failure, and strengths of materials. Provide design and product analysis to meet customer specifications emphasizing design for manufacturability and cost; i.e. FMEA, VAVE.
  • Propose, design, and conduct tests to challenge and/or prove product design features. Generate tests and reports to validate and communicate finding with management.
  • Understand and apply pertinent regulatory agency standards; i.e. NSF, UL, CE
  • Create product 3D models, detail drawings, and BOM (Bill of Materials).
  • Coordinate with other engineers and other functional areas; i.e. procurement and manufacturing to accomplish design integration, prototypes, etc. to develop and manage project timeline goals and objectives.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to effectively present project updates to our end customers or internal stakeholders with professional and technical expertise.
  • Support the patent process as needed.
  • Lead and/or contribute to market research as it relates to new product development.
  • Other tasks and /or duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in NPD and project management required.
  • 5+ Experience in the development of plastic products and components, including knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials and characteristics required.
  • Prior experience in equipment design and electro-mechanical systems required.
  • Prior practical experience with design and material selection for electronic enclosures, sheet metal and wire forming operations required.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office, Solidworks, advanced analysis (FEA, Cycle Fatigue, Tolerance Analysis, etc.), and BOM management tools.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and passion for product development.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as function as a team player or leader.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical documentation relating to products and processes.
  • Experience with product reliability testing preferred.
  • Experience with (rapid) prototyping and willingness to work in a hands-on manner preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills preferred.
  • Prior exposure to regulatory agency requirements a plus.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Office environment with frequent manufacturing operations participation.
  • Hands-on ability to build and test prototypes for proof of concept and lab or field evaluation.
  • 10-20% travel required, both domestic and international travel.
